What is SmartSafe and how does it work?

SmartSafe is a suite of devices (Console, Tray) designed to prevent texting while driving. By securely storing the driver’s phone and integrating safety verifications, it helps reduce distractions and comply with legal safety standards.

Does the SmartSafe lock automatically?

Yes. After placing your device inside and confirming via text, the console locks and cannot be reopened until the vehicle is safely parked.

Can passengers still use their phones?

Yes, SmartSafe only restricts the driver’s phone. Passenger phones are not affected.

What phones and operating systems does SmartSafe support?

SmartSafe supports all iOS and Android devices with Bluetooth and USB or wireless charging capabilities.

Is SmartSafe compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

Will my phone charge inside the SmartSafe Console or Tray?

Can I monitor my teen’s driving activity

Yes. The SmartSafe App sends real-time alerts if a teen tries to text or stream video while driving, and logs usage.

In Teen Mode, adults can still start the vehicle the traditional way using their key fob. However, when a teenager is driving, they must buckle their seat belt and securely lock their phone in the SmartSafe unit before the car will start.

🧠 Safety Features & Compliance

What safety tests are required before driving?

Drivers may be prompted to complete:

• A Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test,

• Verbal coherence checks,

• Visual reaction tasks for drowsiness.

SmartSafe features an advanced, color-coded head-up display (HUD) communication platform that enables drivers to interact with navigation using simple voice commands while keeping their eyes on the road.

Red Flash: When the HUD flashes red, indicating a new navigation request, the system asks, “What is the address?” After the destination is provided, the driver can simply say “Yes” to accept the route or “No” to decline it. If accepted, the turn-by-turn navigation is immediately displayed on the HUD.

Yellow Flash: When the HUD flashes yellow, the driver can request nearby services using voice commands, such as, “Find the nearest gas station.” The selected destination is then displayed on the HUD, allowing the driver to continue safely without handling a phone.

Is SmartSafe HALT Law compliant?

Yes. Our system aligns with NHTSA’s HALT (Handheld and Alcohol-Linked Testing) standards to verify sobriety and alertness before driving.

What if my car doesn’t support push-button start?

SmartSafe works with most modern vehicles. If your car uses a traditional key ignition, only certain features (like phone lockout) may apply.
